Haile-Manas Academy
Haile‑Manas Academy, EEI’s first project, is a first of its kind model school for Ethiopia’s most promising and motivated students, offering a world-class education in a transformative residential setting.
HMA’s mission is to enable students to reach their highest potential as critical thinkers, enterprising young problem-solvers and purposeful, community-minded leaders. HMA is designed to serve 400 students across the 4 grades. The school recruits promising students from across the country and admits them without regard to financial circumstances to the extent our resources permit.
The school welcomed its pioneering class of ninth graders in January 2021, and graduated its second class of seniors in June 2025. Graduates have earned a 100% pass rate on the Ethiopian National Exam - compared to a national pass rate of just 8.4%—and have matriculated at prestigious international colleges and universities that include: Ashesi University, Columbia University, Dartmouth University, Hong Kong University, Koc University, Northwestern University, UCLA, University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, Wellesley College, Williams College, and Yale University.
We expect our graduates to have a significant impact on their communities—whether those communities are local, national or global.
